IFC Midnight to release Iranian psychological thriller ‘The Night’

IFC Midnight is to release Iranian psychological thriller ‘The Night’.

IFC Midnight has acquired the North American rights to Kourosh Ahari’s psychological thriller ‘The Night’, planning to release the film in January 2021.

‘The Night’, starring Iranian Cannes best actor winner Shahab Hosseini, made history as the first US-produced film to receive a license for a theatrical release in Iran since 1979.

“We feel elated that we have found such a caring and supportive partner, IFC Midnight, to be the champions for this Iranian story. ‘The Night’ is meant to be seen in theaters and we are excited that IFC Midnight has made that happen despite the current COVID climate,” said Ahari in his media interview.

The flick, which marks Ahari’s directorial debut and Hosseini’s debut performance in a US-based production, is about an Iranian couple and their one-year-old daughter on the way home from a social event. They spend the night in a hotel where they are forced to confront secrets.

Academy Award winner Terry George is consulting producer of the film with production companies Mammoth Pictures and 7 Skies Entertainment.

The flick boasts executive producer of ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre’, Jeffrey Allard, on the production team.
